Apple issues release candidates for iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2

Examples of Apple Intelligence at work.

Apple is getting close to releasing its next OS updates, offering RC builds of iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, macOS Sequoia 15.2, watchOS 11.2, visionOS 2.2, and tvOS 18.2 for testing.

The latest RC round arrives after the fourth, which surfaced on November 20 for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and the third round of watchOS. The third round of tvOS and visionOS appeared on November 18.

The RC builds of iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2 share build number 22C150, replacing 22C5142a. The RC macOS Sequoia 15.2 build is 24C98, up from 24C5089c.

The RC of watchOS 11.2 is build 22S99, and the rc tvOS 18.2 build is 22K154. The visionOS 2.2 RC build is number 22N840.

At the same time, Apple issued a release candidate for iPadOS 17.7.3, which is build number 21H312. The RC for macOS Ventura 13.7.2 is build 22H313, and macOS Sonoma 14.7.2’s fourth RC is build 23H311.

For iOS and iPadOS, the main changes to Apple Intelligence were graphic-based, including the introduction of Genmoji and Image Playground. iPhone 16 owners can try out Visual Intelligence, asking queries using the iPhone camera.

Writing Tools, a previous addition to iOS and iPadOS, gains a new API for third-party apps.

Siri has its long-awaited ChatGPT integration for some queries. Apple is also making Apple Intelligence available in more regions.

The third round introduced a new feature, where Find My adds Share Item Location. It lets users share the location of an AirTag or other Find My-enabled accessories to third parties, including airlines for lost luggage.

AppleInsider and Apple strongly advise that users do not install test operating systems or other beta or RC software onto “mission-critical” or primary hardware, due to the small chance of issues that could result in the loss of data. Testers should therefore use secondary or non-essential devices and make sure they have sufficient backups of any critical data.
