Apple updates the firmware again for AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4

Apple’s fourth-generation AirPods

Apple has released new firmware for the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4, another software update for its personal audio devices.

Apple has been uncharacteristically frequent with its firmware updates for its AirPods product lines. The relatively high tempo of updates has continued with yet another AirPods firmware update.

Rolled out on Monday, the latest firmware updates are for the AirPods Pro 2 with both Lightning and USB-C charging cases, as well as both of the AirPods 4 models.

It is not known what has changed in the firmware, build 7B20 for the AirPods 4 and 7B21 for the AirPods Pro 2. It is probable that the updates will perform bug fixes and performance improvements on the audio equipment, with full details known if Apple publishes a release note.

Apple’s last firmware update was for the AirPods 4, which arrived on October 29. That was an update to version 7B19, the same version as given to the AirPods Pro 2 in an update the previous week, but without the Hearing Health features.

Users are not able to force an AirPods update through, but they will instead update automatically while paired to an iOS device and placed inside their charging case.
