iPhone 17 Pro Max leak shows redesigned camera layout

Close up of a render purporting to show an iPhone 17 Pro Max in a MagSafe case

New images from a reasonably accurate leaker show renders of iPhone 17 Pro Max case that detail a significant design change for the camera system.

Rumors have now persisted for months that the iPhone 17 Pro series will sport a radically different camera layout, even if some claimed renders have been questionable. Now a new leak shows a rendered iPhone 17 Pro Max plus a MagSafe case, and this one at least appears plausible.

The images are from regular leaker Sonny Dickson, as first spotted by 9to5mac. Dickson has a reasonable track record, including correctly predicting the screen sizes for the iPhone 16 range, and that all models released in September 2024 would have the new Camera Control button.

In this new leak, the most significant element is that Apple has allegedly separated the lenses from the flash, LiDAR sensor, and microphone. These plus the lenses are still in a protruding camera bump, but within that, the two segments get their own compartments.

The render for the purported MagSafe case shows two cutouts, one for the lens system, and one for this separate segment. They also show on the top corners what at first look like controls, but are parts of the case to allow for fitting the case and iPhone to a lanyard.

While this leak specifically refers to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it’s all but certain that the same arrangement will be on both that and the iPhone 17 Pro.

Note that regardless of leaker Sonny Dickson’s track record, leaks such as these are typically based on case manufacturers’ best guesses about the next iPhone. Apple does not share details with case makers, or at least not commonly, so there is no guarantee that this render is correct.

As well as a new camera layout, it’s previously been claimed that the iPhone 17 Pro will return to having curved sides.
