Elephants from the Apple Immersive Video series ‘Wild Life’
Apple has brought out more Immersive Video content for the Apple Vision Pro, with series and films putting the viewer in the middle of the action.
Apple Immersive Video has been a big draw for the Apple Vision Pro headset, but the content available isn’t what you would call extensive. On Thursday, Apple aims to change that by announcing even more content using the format.
The roster starts with Boundless, a new series providing once-in-a-lifetime trips for viewers. Starting from July 18, the series starts with “Hot Air Balloons” as viewers float over Cappadocia, Turkey.
Future installments of the series will include “Arctic Surfing” this fall, with surfers seeking wintry waves in the Arctic Circle.
The next edition of Wild Life in August will take viewers to Kenya’s Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, featuring footage of orphaned elephants being cared for by keepers. Later in 2024, the show will follow divers in the Bahamas coming face-to-face with apex predators.
September will bring with it the first episode of Elevated, a travel series based on aerial views. The first edition will show the volcanoes and waterfalls of Hawaii, with a crisp New England fall to follow.
Arriving this fall, Submerged will be the first scripted short film captured in Apple Immersive Video. Written and directed by Academy Award-winner Edward Berger, the film will show sailors aboard a World War II submarine trying to survive a torpedo attack.
‘Boundless’
The content on offer will include event-based releases, too. This will start off with the fall release of footage from the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend, which will feature the famous Slam Dunk contest.
Musical artist The Weeknd will also provide an immersive experience that will premiere later in 2024. Action sports fans will be able to watch Red Bull: Big-Wave Surfing, with surfers attempting to ride the barrel of the heaviest wave in the world off the coast of Teahupo’o, Tahiti.
Apple says that more shows, films, concerts, and sports will be captured and released in Apple Immersive Video this year.
The footage filmed in Apple Immersive Video is captured in 8K, with a 180-degree field of view, complete with Spatial Audio support. The format is unique in a number of ways and even has a BlackMagic Design camera and workflow created for it.
