You can now update your Apple TV to tvOS 18.1

Apple has rolled out tvOS 18.1, a relatively minor update focused on bug fixes and performance upgrades.

Apple’s release of tvOS 18.1 is now available to the public on Apple TV and Apple TV 4K. As anticipated, no public-facing notes of interest exist for this specific release.

In mid-September, Apple rolled out tvOS 18 alongside updates to its other operating systems. While Apple typically doesn’t push out robust updates for the set-top box every year, 2024 marks the second year in a row with significant changes.

A new feature, InSight, allows you to see more info about the on-screen actors. Currently, InSight is only available for Apple TV+ original movies and shows, but we expect the feature to expand to other services.

A slew of new updates targeted both audio and accessibility, now getting a boost from Apple Intelligence. Dialog enhancement enables even better separation of dialog from background audio.

A new SharePlay feature allows users to collaboratively create Apple Music playlists on Apple TV now. It works by playing music in the Apple Music app and selecting the SharePlay icon in the lower-right corner. A QR code will appear on-screen for others to scan.
